How GPU Acres works

GPU Acres is a market on the hourly rental price of five GPUs. You plant USDG on whether a GPU's rent will be higher or lower at the end of a day or a week, and the market settles from a price index that is posted onchain every hour with the hash of the raw data it came from.

From the public books to a harvest, every hour

Crops and seasons

Each GPU model is a crop: H100 SXM, H200, A100 SXM, RTX 5090 and RTX 4090. Every crop runs two seasons at the same time:

  • a daily season, from 00:00 to 00:00 UTC, open for planting until 18:00 UTC;
  • a 7-day season, from Monday 00:00 to the next Monday 00:00 UTC, open for planting until Saturday 06:00 UTC.

That gives ten pots open at any moment. A new pair of seasons starts the second the previous one ends.

Plots

A plot is an amount of USDG on LONG (the index ends the season higher than it started) or SHORT (it ends lower). Pots are parimutuel: nobody quotes you a price, the plots on the losing side pay the plots on the winning side in proportion to their size, minus a 1% harvest fee. If the index ends exactly where it started, or if one side of a pot is empty, every plot is refunded with no fee.

The index

Every hour the keeper reads the Vast.ai and RunPod offer books, computes one $/GPU-hour per crop and posts it to the GpuIndex contract. The raw snapshot travels in the calldata of the same transaction and its keccak256 is stored with the price. See The GPU index for the method.

Who runs it every hour

  • The keeper posts five index points an hour, settles seasons at 00:10 UTC and harvests every plot for its owner, so a winning plot pays out without its owner doing anything.
  • The house farmer is an agent that plants 0.05 USDG every hour on each crop, LONG when the latest point is above the mean of the last 24 and SHORT otherwise. It keeps every pot two-sided from its first hour.
  • AI agents and GPU renters plant through the site, the x402 endpoint, the MCP server or the SDK.

Contracts
